Nigeria's largest thermal power generating station since 1985
Our Story
Egbin Power Plc is the largest thermal power generating station in Nigeria, located at Ijede/Egbin in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The station has an installed capacity of 1,320 MW, comprising six generating units of 220 MW each.
The plant contributes over 16% of total electricity generated to the Nigerian National Grid, making it a critical backbone of Nigeria's power infrastructure.
Egbin Power PLC is owned by the Sahara Group in partnership with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), combining Nigerian enterprise with world-class technical expertise.

Ownership
In November 2013, following the Nigerian Government's privatisation of the power sector, Egbin Power PLC was handed over to a joint venture between Sahara Power Group and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
Sahara Group is Africa's largest privately-run power business. KEPCO is South Korea's national electricity utility and one of the world's leading power companies. Together they have committed to restoring Egbin to its full 1,320 MW capacity and expanding toward 5,000 MW in the future.

Operations
Egbin Power PLC operates a closed system based on the Reheat-Regenerative Rankine cycle. The process begins from deep water wells where water is sustainably sourced and used to generate steam for power generation using six steam turbine generators.
The six units are dual-fired Hitachi turbines capable of running on both natural gas and Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO). Power is wheeled to the national grid at the most cost-effective rate achievable within optimal levels of efficiency and global HSE compliance standards.
