Our commitment to responsible energy and the environment
Our Commitment
At Egbin Power PLC, sustainability is not just a policy — it is a core business principle. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint while continuing to power Nigeria's growth.
Our sustainability strategy is aligned with Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the global Paris Agreement goals, focusing on emissions reduction, operational efficiency and energy transition readiness.
Egbin Power PLC operates under a certified Environmental Management System, monitoring air emissions, water discharge, and waste output across all six generating units. We conduct annual environmental impact assessments in line with NESREA regulations and international best practice.
Our dual-fired Hitachi turbines are optimised to run on natural gas: the cleaner of our two fuel options, reducing CO₂ output per MW generated. Ongoing investment in turbine rehabilitation has progressively improved our heat rate and thermal efficiency since Privatization in 2013.
We run active tree-planting and lagoon-health initiatives in Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan communities. Our annual Community Medical Outreach includes environmental health screenings for residents in our host communities.
Egbin Power PLC operates to international HSE standards, with a dedicated HSE department conducting daily risk assessments, near-miss reporting, and mandatory safety training for all plant personnel. We target zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) across all operations.
